| Wildlife Week Celebrations | | Symposia, nature trip, road show mark 3rd celebrations | |
EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | OCT 4 As a part of the celebrations of the Wild Life Week, a symposium on ‘Preservation of Wildlife and its Habitat ’was organized by the Wildlife Protection Department at the famous Wildlife Sanctuary Jasrota, the home of many endangered species of animals. Students from five schools of the area participated in the symposium and urged the need for carrying forward the importance of preservation and conservation of bio-diversity imperative for survival of mankind. Priyanka Sharma of Manu Shiksha Kendra, Raghbagh bagged the first prize in the symposium followed by Imtiyal Ali of Govt Higher School Furlain who got second slot while Reinu Gulchoo of Manu Shiksha Kendra won the third prize Incharge Eco-Club and teacher of GHS Furlain, speaking on the occasion, gave valuable information and suggestions on environment and wildlife conservation and appealed to the gathering and local people to extend a helping hand to the department in the protection of wildlife in the area. Wildlife Warden Jammu-East Kathua who presided over the function spoke on the significance of the celebrations of this week and sought cooperation of the peo0ple in conservation of wildlife and its habitat. To create awareness among the younger generation about the importance of conservation of wildlife and its habitat, the Department also organized a nature trip of students of different schools from Jammu to Nandni Wildlife Sanctuary today. Over one hundred students and ten teachers joined the trip. The students were taken around to the sanctuary and briefed about the importance of conservation of wildlife. A Road Show competition of the students is another activity of the week- long celebrations. The students of Shangrilla Public School and Government High School Ghass Mandi Jammu took part in today’s road show and distributed publicity material on conservation of bio-diversity among the people. Reports about celebrations of the week and organizing of several functions are also pouring in from Kishtwar. The students of six adjoining schools participated in the symposium organized at High Altitude National Park at Kishtwar.
