TRCF launches state tribal fest Ajaz, Zulfikar inaugurate series

Jammu, Nov 22: To showcase the promote the richness of Gujjar arts and culture, the Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, a national level organization working on the Indian tribes, today kickstarted a series of cultural events.
The TRCF has been engaged in preservation and promotion of tribal culture through intangible means for over a decade now and today’s function marked, what can be described as, a sustained campaign of not only promoting the Gujjar culture but also bringing other communities closer to the richness of culture of Gujjar tribe.
The first event of the series conceived by nationally renowned cultural activist Dr Javed Rahi, a state level tribal festival was today formally inaugurated by Ajaz Ahmed Khan, the Minister for Hajj and Auqaf. Senior Peoples Democratic Party leader and MLA Darhal Choudhary Zulfikar Ali was presided over the function while Secretary of Culture Academy (JKAACL) Zaffar Iqbal Khan Manhas shared the presidium at Sehgal Hall.
In his address, Ajaz Khan said that Gojri is one of the important tribal languages of India and deserves fair deal from government and society as well. He said that more NGOs should come forward to promote the Gujjar Culture and oral and modern Literature of Gojri. He said we have to work together for promotion of suppressed cultural identities.

The Minister appreciated the Tribal Research and cultural Foundation for holding of this Festival and congratulated the artists who participated in the event.
Ch. Zulifkar Ali in his presidential address said that there is strong case for inclusion of Gojri into the eighth scheduled of Indian constitution. He said that during forth coming session of Assembly he will move a resolution in lower house to get it done. He impressed upon younger tribal generation to be united against all odds. He further said that the artists and writers should be encouraged by government bodies working in Cultural field.
Zaffar Iqbal Manhas in his speech appreciated Tribal Foundation and assured all help from Cultural Academy in its endevour to promote Gujjar Culture and Gojri Language.
Earlier, welcoming the guests Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary Tribal Foundation said that the main objective of organizing Tribal Festival is to highlight the primitive culture of Gujjars which is surviving for the last 5000 year. He said the foundation is proactive in conservation and promotion of Gojri Language and its Musical tradition and had recently launched an e-Channel Gojri on world famous “Youtube” on internet and uploaded 100 videos of Gojri music. He said there is great demand of Gojri Music on Internet and we are receiving hundreds of emails about our Videos from all parts of the world.
On this occasion prominent singer Kailash Mehra was honoured by Tribal Foundation for her extra ordinary contributions in the field of Gojri light Music. Ch Bashir Mastana and Ch Allah Rakha Chechi were honoured for promoting Gojri Folk while Suraj Singh was honoured for promotion of Gojri Ghazals.
