One Anganwadi Center for every lot of 40 children in J&K

Jammu, Nov 23: Any inhabitation in Jammu and Kashmir where there is population of 40 or more children shall have an Anganwadi Center.
This was given to understand by the Social Welfare Minister Sakina Ittoo while chairing a meeting of ICDS officers of Jammu division here today. She said that the Government is committed to provide better nutrition facilities to children through Anganwari Centres, adding that opening of more centres in uncovered areas is on anvil.
Expressing satisfaction over the decision of the Central Government on establishment of 3094 Anganwari Centres in the State. The Minister said that these new Centres would be opened in all habitations with population of atleast 40 children.
Similarly, out of Rs 2202.12 lakh, Rs 1309.65 lakh have been spent under Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) and out of Rs. 1309.65 lakh, released under Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS), Rs 1185.98 lakh have been spent during the current year.
The Minister stressed upon the Programme Officers and District Social Welfare Officers to project proposals to the Government so that uncovered areas are also brought under the scheme.
Ms. Sakina directed the officers to streamline functioning of the department with focused attention on implementing various welfare schemes. She also directed them to provide utilizastion certificates of funds within prescribed period. She said that the department would issue appreciation letters to the officers who compete the engagement of Anganwari workers and provide utilization funds certificates. No laxity on this count will be acceptable, she added.
The Minister stressed upon the officers to work with dedication and missionary spirit and ensure the deserving avail of the benefits of welfare schemes. She cautioned that any official found indulging in malpractices in providing nutrition would invite severe punishment. Secretary Social Welfare MS Khan and Director Jammu Choudhary Mehmood Rana were present in the meeting.
