| House panel stresses on sanctity of ‘suryaputri’ | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 23: Stressing to maintain the religious sanctity of river Tawi, also referred to as Suryaputri, a House Committee of Legislative Assembly on Environment headed by MLA Nizamuddin Bhatt has expressed the need for creating a baseline data bank for river Tawi, encompassing water and air analysis along with environmental impact assessment and solid quantification of effluents and solid waste into the river. The meeting held threadbare discussions on various issues regarding conservation, protection and maintenance of all water bodies in the State. The Committee observed that all the development to be undertaken in the vicinity of various water bodies should be environmental friendly, including construction of a recreation park on the banks of river Tawi in Jammu. The Committee stressed for close coordination between the line departments including both overseeing water bodies and works execution agencies. shwani Kumar Sharma, Smt. Bimla Luthra, Mr. Durga Dass, Mr. Krishen Chander, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Mr. Sukhnandan Kumar, Mr. Baldev Raj, legislators, Secretary, Legislative Assembly, Mr. M. Ramzan and senior officers of Housing and Urban Development, Pollution Control Board, Environment and Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
