| RR wins humanitarian law award | | |

Udhampur Nov 23: Indian army has earned top position in an international competition on International Humanitarian Law which was conducted by Swiss Armed Forces College, Lucerne, Switzerland from Nov 2-6 at Lucerne, Switzerland under Partnership for peace programme sponsored by Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
‘The Indian team comprising Commanding Officers of Rashtriya Rifle (RR) Battalions deployed in Jammu and Kashmir participated for the first time and was ranked first, Defence spokesperson Northern Command said and claimed that it speaks of the professional acumen and well established credentials of Indian Army on Human Rights.
Defence spokesperson said that the competition was open to all NATO, Mediterranean Dialogue Nations, countries of Istanbul Cooperation Initiative and any other country interested in participating. The overall objective of the competition was to enhance the participating officers ability in application of International Humanitarian Law within military peace support deployment.
The competition consisted of interactive map simulations of real life situation where issues of International Humanitarian Law as well as legal aspects of Peace Support Operation were covered.
Teams comprising middle ranking officers from Germany, Australia, Switzerland, Tunisia, Algeria, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Kyrgyzstan participated in the event.
