| Pepsi slapped Rs 15000 fine for misleading on Nimbooz | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, NOV 23: For misleading the consumers on quantity of its latest popular drink Nimbooz, the Pepsi Company has been slapped with fine by Jammu and Kashmir Legal Metrology Department.
Legal Metrology department has taken note of various advertisements of branded products which contravene the provisions of Weights & Measures Act as these advertisement tend to mislead and hoodwink the consumers.
As per Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, SS Lab, Jammu, in the instant cases, Legal Metrology Department noticed an advertisement campaign of soft drink aired in various electronic channels by Pepsi Foods PVT Ltd. In this sale promotional activity, the company tried to attract the consumers by way of displaying the price of soft drink brand Nimbooz but, net contents were not shown conspicuously and legibly for the information of the consumers, which violates the provision of section 39 (6) of Standard Act, wherein, it is mandatory for any advertisement to show the net contents alongwith the price of package, so that consumer can correlate the actual benefit to him.
Notice was served to the Management by Inspector, Legal Metrology, Akhnoor and to collate all the evidences, the slides of the advertisement were collected and after scrutiny, the management was held responsible for the omission. Taking lenient view, offence was compounded and a fine of Rs.15,000 imposed and recovered from the company.
Directions were issued to the company for necessary rectification in the said advertisement which also got implemented.
