| Chib urges SAI for creating sports infrastructure | | | New Delhi, 24 November- Minister for Medical and Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Mr. R. S. Chib has asked the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to set up Sports Training Centres (STCs) for children in 14-21 age groups years in Jammu and Kashmir. In an interaction with Mr. Shayan Chatterjee, Director General, SAI here today Mr. Chib proposed setting up of training centres at Udhampur in Jammu division and Wathora in Badgam district of Kashmir division. The purpose will be provided by the Department of Youth Services and Sports. The Minister said that the Sports Authority of India, had sanctioned two Sports Project Development Area (SPDA) Centres for Jammu, Udhampur and Wathora. The centre at Udhampur, constructed on 50-50 Centre-State share basis was commissioned in 2000, but the setting up of SPDA centre at Wathora got delayed because of the turmoil in the Valley, he added. Mr. Chib said that the State Government is pursuing the development of sports centre in Kashmir, to promote sports talent. Mr. Chatterjee assured to look into the matter personally, so that the sports talent of the State is channelized in the right direction.
