| Centre seeks to bifurcate J&K Central University | | | New Delhi, Nov 24 Bowing to the wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir regions, the government today sought to bifurcate the state's Central University to have two separate universities to cater to both the regions. Introducing a bill in the Lok Sabha to amend the Central Universities Act, 2009, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal this was being done "in view of the upsurge of sentiments for its location in Kashmir valley and equally pressing demand for establishment of a Central University in Jammu region also." The Central University at present has a temporary office in Srinagar. Passing of this bill by Paliament will replace the Central Universities (Amendment) Ordinance, 2009, promulgated by President Pratibha Patil on October 20 this year due to the urgency of the matter and because Parliament was not in session then.
