| Militants waiting across border: Gen Kapoor | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, NOV 24 : About 2,000 to 2,500 militants of various outfits, including Taliban, are waiting in 42 odd training camps located along border with Pakistan for opportune time to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir, Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor said here today. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function, Gen Kapoor said as per intelligence inputs, about 2,000 to 2,500 militants were still there in 42 terrorist training camps located across the International Border and Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan. To a specific query on Taliban among militants waiting for infiltration into the state, he said the cadres of Islamic fundamentalist outfit could be there waiting for attempting infiltration. ''But no matters whether they are LeT, Jaish, Taliban or of any other group, Army is there to protect the people.'' Asked if Army has recommended any action to check militants taking advantage of opening of the LoC for people’s movement and intra-state trade, Gen Kapoor said, ''Yes, it is our recommendation and the Centre is also to take appropriate measures to check misuse to such facilities provided to the civilians''. One of the 10 visitors from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), who crossed over to this side from Chakkan Da Bagh crossing LoC point yesterday on the weekly bus service, was caught carrying a Satellite telephone, reportedly for a top LeT operative in Jammu and Kashmir. The Army Chief, however, observed that the incidents of attacks on security forces operating in this militancy-torn state have increased. ''There has been a significant decrease in incidents of militants’ attack on civilian population, but attack on security forces have increased,'' Gen Kapoor said.
