| CM’s glib talk foxes youth | | | MUNISH GUPTA JAMMU, Nov 24: Every youngster in Jammu and Kashmir is piqued by the fact that their young Chief Minister advocates the cause of youth in far off Hyderabad while giving them virtually a cold shoulder back home. Youth from all sections of the society in the state are at the verge of frustration due to neglect by successive State governments. Yet Chief Minister applauds them in another State. In a three-day conference of Young Presidents Organization in Hyderabad in which CEOs and delegates’of YPO was present, Omar Abdullah said that present global scenario has made youth more important for the fields of economic and social justice. But local youth in Jammu and Kashmir are literally foxed and ask whether CM is really serious about youth or is playing politics as usually has been done by his predecessors too for the last 60 years. Agriculturists, technocrats, SRTC employees, National Mazdoor Conference, PDD daily wagers, Home guards, IRP aspirants, unemployed youth organisations and almost all educated unemployed youth are on warpath to get their due and make ends meet. Yet the Government remains unmoved. Thousands and hundreds of young graduates, post graduates and others with different levels of qualifications have crossed the age limit while waiting for jobs. Then youth force working in private sectors feel deprived of their legitimate share of earning and even salaries and perks are not being paid to them on time. Similar is the situation of entrepreneurs as government is announcing new schemes for them every now and then but practically it is not easy to avail financial assistance which are so intricate and cumbersome. Even for the last sixty years government could not formulate a concrete policy to address the pathetic conditions of the youth of the State. There are some states where youth are being provided stipend till the arrangements of their employments are made. “It is not only the question of youth but also people of all walks of life are the sufferers due lacking of concrete policy formation” a retired bureaucrat said and added that in most of the government departments nothing has changed only the pay scales are being enhanced with the implementation of every new pay commission. “Nobody is committed to task assigned and politicians, bureaucrats and employees are after their vested interests” said a government employee requesting anonymity. He said that there are no arrangements to have a check on the rates of commodities for daily use whereas thousands of persons had been employed to fulfil the purpose and similar is case with other departments. Twenty years of turmoil in J&K is an outcome of crisis among the youth. No doubt youth have a bigger role to play in developing atmosphere but this calls for providing youth with opportunity and direction. It is easy to say youth can do the miracles but to formulate the programme for this is a task that needs focused attention. Politicians, bureaucrats and policy makers for the last one year seems have gone underground as all sections of life and particularly the youth across the state is restless and helpless due to ignorance. Whether government of the day deliberately resorts to ignorance or does not have worthy brains which could formulate concrete policy to make an end to the miseries of the youth at large, remains worth to watch as Chief Minister is supposed to announce comprehensive employment package for the youth upon which National Conference is working for the last one year and it is expected to be a landmark achievement of coalition government under the leadership of Omar.
