| Road connectivity, education pivotal for development: Shabir | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, NOVEMBER 25: The Minister of State for Power, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD), Mr. Shabir Ahmed Khan has said that the Government has launched a massive development programme across the State with focus on developing backward, hilly and remote areas.
This was stated by the Minister during his interaction with several deputations from Thanamandi, Manjakote, Dehari Loyat, Rajdhani, Dangi Brahmana, Grathi and Behrote, who met him here last evening.
The Minister said that transformation of socio-economic conditions of people of backward areas is the priority of the Government and added that a number of new initiatives have been taken to improve the basic amenities in these areas.
Mr. Shabir Khan said that better road connectivity and quality education are key to socio-economic upliftment of the society. Like other parts of the State, Rajouri is also getting focussed attention of the Government, he said, adding that road projects already taken up under the State and District Plan in the district are gaining momentum. He said that the execution of 65 new road projects involving a total cost of Rs. 184 crore would be taken up under PMGSY phase-VII during current fiscal. He said imparting quality and vocational education is yet another priority of the Government. He said apart from setting up of new primary schools, a number of middle and high schools have been upgraded in the district while opening of Degree College for Women at Rajouri and Degree College at Manjakote is also under consideration of the Government. He said that added attention is being given for improving electricity and drinking water facilities in all the hilly areas of the district.
The Minister assured the deputationists’ that their genuine demands would be looked into sympathetically and directed CA&PD functionaries to ensure adequate stocks of foodgrains at all sale outlets in Rajouri district, so that the people get their monthly ration quota well in time.
