| NSUI demand well equipped libraries for every district in J&K | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 25- - NSUI has demanded 24-hour, extensive and well-equipped libraries for every district headquarter in J&K. In a statement general secretary of the state unit, Arjun Singh Pathania said that there are a lot of public libraries run by government but they have many limitations with regard to infrastructure, printed information resources, storage and space. Books in these libraries are very limited and its membership require guarantee of gazzeted officer. He said libraries in district headquarters providing online reference materials, famous journals and newspapers. It should have good number of books, audio-visual materials and Photostat facilities at nominal price. The library should have easy process of membership without the guarantee of any gazzeted officer of state. It should have neat and clean reading rooms and discussion halls with 24-hour student entry. Some mobile libraries in Vans should also be employed to distribute books for reading in villages. These libraries will benefit a lot of people in these towns. Especially students preparing for competitive exams and those engaged in research will draw maximum benefits out of it. Supporting his argument, he said that a well equipped library in every district headquarter was also recommended by Randhawa Library Committee appointed by government of Jammu and Kashmir in 1975 to study the working of the department of libraries. The committee has also recommended some mobile libraries vans to provide library service in remote areas. He has appealed to government of Jammu and Kashmir to consider the demand of providing class libraries in every district headquarter
