| PSP’s to be introduced for checking water wastage: Taj | | | Early Times Report
KATHUA, NOVEMBER 26 – Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Mr. Taj Mohi-Ud-Din has called for formulating new water supply projects close to the source of water, so that only one lift is required to supply water to the public. Reviewing PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Departments here, today, the Minister said, to reduce the wastage of water, Public Stand Port (PSP) will be installed at the user end along with timers. “time has come that we pay for the public services and a greater awareness needs to be generated regarding judicious use of water”, he added. Under centrally sponsored schemes, 59 schemes are being implemented in rural areas. The Minister was apprised that in Kathua town, under UIDSSMT, a project worth Rs 21 crore has been sanctioned. Under this project, 9 tube wells and 12 overhead water tanks would be constructed. So far, 9 tube wells have been completed and work on 9 overhead water tanks is in progress. Under Irrigation sector, modification of Kathua canal project , involving a cost of Rs. 51. 73 crore has been submitted to the Central Water Commission (CWC) Delhi
for its approval under medium irrigation sector. Under minor irrigation sector, 16 schemes involving Rs 47.78 crore have been taken up during 2009-10. The Minister directed to complete five minor irrigation schemes during the current year for which Rs. 1. 60 crore have been made available. This , he said will create irrigation potential of about 700 hectares after completion. A Check Dam, at Wajoo Nallah is also under execution a cost of Rs. 12. 65 crore.Reviewing the flood control works in the district, Mr. Taj was informed that construction of embankments at vulnerable spots from Jakhole to Pandorian is being executed at an estimated cost of 14.63 crore. The Minister directed to undertake other protection works in the district on immediate basis. District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Mr. Sanjeev Verma, Additional District Development Commissioner, Kathua, SE, Hydraulic, Kathua, Executive Engineers of PHE, Irrigation, Flood Control and other officers were attended the meeting |
