Manohar for promotion of regional culture, languages

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 26- Stating that Jammu and Kashmir is a symbol of composite culture, the Minister of State for Cooperative and Higher Education, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma said that promoting regional culture and languages is the need of hour at a time when western culture has overtaken the youth.

Addressing a function organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Arts, Culture and Languages in collaboration with Basohli Kala Kendra to promote Dogri culture in Jammu region at Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya Basholi here today. The Minister expressed concern over ignoring of Dogri language in the day to day activities and losing touch with the culture roots by people. He called upon the people to encourage Dogri language among their children. While appreciating the Cultural Academy for organizing the programme, he asked them to hold more such programmes in rural and far-flung areas of Jammu region.

Additional Secretary Academy of Arts, Culture and Languages, Ms. Savita Bakshi announced a cash prize of Rs. 2000 for the students of Navodhya Vidhalya for putting up a scintillating Culture programme.

Former Minister, Mr. Prem Sagar Aziz also addressed the gathering and expressed his views on the subject. Artists of Kala Kendra and Cultural Academy presented dogri songs based on themes like social evils, dowry, erosion of social values among the society. Earlier, the Minister visited Shri Chanchlo Mata temple situated at the hill top, alongside of Ranjit Sagar Dam and paid obeisance there. He prayed for peace and

prosperity in the State which has been witnessing a long turmoil. The Minister also inspected the status of Degree College, Basholi. The Minister was told that construction work is almost complete and is in the final stage of completion. Dr. Manohar Lal directed the concerned to construct the compound wall around the college complex to protect the assets and avoid encroachment. Mr. Prem Sagar also accompanied the Minister.
