| CCI against limiting storage of essential commodities for traders | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 26 : Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) today expressed deep concern over the notification issued by the government limiting the possession of various essential commodities like pulses, edible oils, edible seeds and paddy by the traders.
''Chamber is of the opinion that it (limiting possession) will adversely effect the supply line of the essential commodities,'' CCI president Y V Sharma said here in a statement.
Mr Sharma pointed out that Jammu imports 99.9 per cent of the items mentioned above from other states like Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
''The limiting of possession of the stocks will effect the price line adversely. It will cause shortages,'' he said.
He said limiting the possession of pulses to 200 quintals is very meager.
''Business to the tune of 150 to 200 trucks of these items takes place in Jammu market everyday,'' Mr Sharma asserted.
''Restricting the quantities is going to cause many hardships to the consumers, being the importing station of these essentials commodities it is almost impossible to stick to the stipulated quantities in the notification,'' the CCI president said, urging the government to reconsider these limits and let the condition prevail as they were prior to this notification.
The chamber is of the considered opinion that while making such policy decisions the business community should be taken into confidence so that they make their position clear, he said.
