| Who replaced name of Mufti Mohd Sayeed from Balidan sthambh? | | |
Early Times Report Jammu, November 26: Historians always say that it is very important to preserve history in any form as it helps in research work and rewriting old chapters of history. But it appears that Indian army which has a glorious past of its own has no regards for history.
On January 6, 2005 when former Army Chief General NC Vij had laid foundation stone of the Balidan sthambh near Bahu Fort to start the construction work of war memorial the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed and Governor SK Sinha were also present on the occasion and a marble plate was unveiled by the VVIP present there.
The then deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma was also one of the many political faces present in the audience. The news report which figured in the monthly edition of the sainik samachar flashed images of all three standing near the marble plate which had names of Mufi Mohd Sayeed and Governor SK Sinha at that time.
Ironically, on November 24, 2009 when Army Chief Gen Deepak Kapoor and chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated the war memorial the marble plate with names of Mufti Mohd Sayeed and Governor SK Sinha was nowhere to be seen. In its place a new marble plate with name of General NC Vij was replaced with the original one. It is not certain whether the original plate was repalced by the army authorities on their own or some one in the civil administration passed instructions to the army, which till date was maintaining the balidan sthambh to replace the same. Interestingly, the former chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who is spearheading a campaign to revoke Armed forces special powers act from teh state and to scrap other draconian laws had sung high praises about the role of army in bringing perceptible change on the ground.
Mufti had stated that strong defence is necessary for strengthening the forces of peace and lauded the Army for helping in restoration of peace in the State. The former Chief Minister had also stated on the occasion that the Army, the people and the administration are enjoying good rapport and referred to the civic action programme under which many strides have been taken.
Appreciating the idea of building Balidan Stambh, the Chief Minister had called for close co-ordination between the army and Jammu Development Authority for making the site a befitting tourist attraction. |
