Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 27- The Cultural Troupe, deputed by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu for participation in the North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival at Kurukshetra has brought laurels by winning seven prizes.
Those who won the prizes included Rahul, in light vocal solo, Priya Raina in Mimicry and Western Group song presented by Veenu Sharma, Sandhya Sulmotra, Navjot Kour, Gurvinder Kour and Sheena Maini, won second prize while Neha Talwar, in Classical Instrumental Solo (Percussion), Naveen Sharma in Classical Vocal Solo, Gurvinder Kour in Western Vocal Solo. The team consisting Sarang Vaid, Mukesh Kumar, Vikas Sharma, Sayed Azhar Hashmi and Vandana Sharma in SKIT won third prize respectively. It needs to be mentioned here that the second prize winners have been selected for participation in the National Youth Festival to be held at Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak.
The troupe led by. Prof. V.S. Manhas, Dr. Kamlesh Manhas and Sh. Kulbushan Thakur were assisted by Meenakshi Anand and Ankita Gupta, Joint Secretaries of the Students Cultural Council.
Prof. Varun Sahni, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu congratulated and felicitated the team members.
In a specially held function Prof. Sahni lauded the efforts of the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu and encouraged the participants selected for National event to prepare themselves for the competition and also assured to provide all possible support.
Prof. G.M. Bhat, Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee, Prof. Versha Mehta, Prof. J.S. Tara, Dean Students Welfare, Vijay Atri, Assistant Dean (Cultural Affairs), Dr. Shailendra Singh, Assistant Dean (SW), Vinay Thusoo, PRO and the members of cultural troupe were present on the occasion..
The festival was organized by Kurukshetra University in association with Association of Indian Universities and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
