10/5/2006 10:26:20 PM

Kathua, October 05 – Entire Kathua today assembled to receive Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad when he reached here to participate in Kathua Martyrs’ Day observance. Enthusiastic public showered flowers and garlanded Mr. Azad raising slogans ‘Azad Sahib Zindabad’ cheered and waved with love and affection for their beloved leader.
Mr. Azad was carried in a procession from Kalibari to Hutli More along national highway and then to the venue of Shaheedi Chowk. The entire 10-km long procession route witnessed thousands of men, women, young and old enthusiastically waiting to receive Mr. Azad and on his arrival they extended warm welcome to him affectionately.
From the rostrum of public meeting, saluting the great sons of the soil who have laid their lives to protect the honour and solidarity of the country while facing enemies at various fronts, Chief Minister described the martyrs as real heroes of the nation and added “nation feels proud of the mothers giving birth to such great, brave and patriotic sons”.
Before a sea of people, who had gathered to listen to him, Mr. Azad announced that government would soon launch a scheme to provide befitting succor to the dependents of those who have attained martyrdom while defending the life and freedom of people.
He reminded people of the challenges the country had to face internally and externally since independence and the bravery shown by jawans to scuttle the designs of enemies saving the country from all threats. “They bled every drop of their blood for the cause of nation and made us to breath in an atmosphere of freedom and democracy”, Chief Minister maintained. He said it is the duty of every citizen of the country to take care of those who while caring for country have sacrificed their precious lives.
Chief Minister while cautioning the people against the elements who are bent upon creating wedge between various sections of the people in the name of religion, region, caste and creed, said that such elements are more dangerous as they live within the society but play anti-people role. He said unified approach to fight anti-peace and anti-progress elements is imperative under the present scenario in the state saying “it is all the more important for every one of us to coordinate and cooperate with each other in foiling the attempts of enemies of people”.
Chief Minister said that people of Jammu and Kashmir have faced many onslaughts since 1947 but have faced every threat with courage and bravery. He said during last 17 years people are facing militancy and witnessed various ugly faces of terror. Many precious lives have fallen to the atrocities of militancy, property and public infrastructure has been heavily damaged, all fields of development received severe setback, education of students got marred, economy and progress was put to shambles. Army, CRPF, BSF, Police and other security forces personnel sacrificed their lives in protecting the lives of civilians and providing security. “They fought militancy bravely and succeeded in bringing it under control. They deserve highest honour and remembrance”, he maintained.
He said history is witness to the sacrifices made by great leaders of country including Mahatma Gandhi, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi and other martyrs for upholding the freedom and people’s cause. He said there are propagators of two ideologies, one spreads hatred, communal bias and bloodshed in the name of religion, caste and creed while as the other circulates message of love, peace, brotherhood and communal amity. No doubt majority are with the propagators of love and peace which is the right thinking and befitting to human character. There is almost no buyer for the ideology of hatred and bloodshed which is in fact an abnormal human phenomenon. Human beings are the most beautiful creation of God and nobody has right to slain this precious creation in the name of region, caste or creed, Chief Minister said.
Member Parliament Ch. Lal Singh expressed gratitude to Chief Minister for making it a point to participate in the Shaheedi Diwas at Kathua. He said Mr. Azad is a distinguished and charismatic man of masses who takes care of every area, every section and every individual. This is evident from scores of incidents that are before the people since Mr. Azad took over as Chief Minister, saying that his participation in Kathua Shaheedi Diwas is one of the indications how much importance Mr. Azad gives to the feelings of people. He said it is for his this outstanding and people-friendly character that every citizen of Kathua has left his home to receive the beloved leader.
