| MR CHIEF MINISTER WE REALLY MISSED YOUR COMPANY | | TIPSY DRIVERS ADDED ZING TO OMAR ABDULLAHS HISTORIC TRIAL RUN ON MUGHAL ROAD, JOURNOS REACH HOME SAFELY | | Early Times Report Jammu, November 28: The organisers of the recent trip of media persons to Poonch to cover the historic drive of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Mughal Road virtually played with the life of battery of 'journos' who were left at the mercy of 'tipsy drivers' on hilly road.
For last two days various news papers have been publishing sponsored advertisements issued by the Information department flashing pictures of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the drivers seat on historic Mughal road.
The advertisement read as, "Omar's magnificent and successful first drive on historical Mughal Raod opens new chapter of history"
"Omar's travel gives new life to this route after 400 years".
All those media persons who were invited by the state Information department to cover the historic event shared somewhat similar sentiments after they reached Jammu safely past midnight after undertaking adventurous journey.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his caravan, not ready to take chances, was halted at Rajori and accommodated in comfortable and cozy rooms to spend the night with plateful of sumptuous dinner.
The journos, who kept waiting for the Chief Minister for over six hours to appear on the horizon shivering in their boots, were packed by the Information department in hired SUV's and left at the mercy of 'tipsy' drivers while returning late in the night from Poonch.
During the adventurous trip the journos were praying hard along the entire route to reach home safely and tried their level best to persuade the tipsy drivers to drive carefully by convincing them to drive carefully as they were not in hurry.
Interestingly the senior officers of the Information department were responsible for keeping the drivers in 'high spirits' and had deliberately sponsored their drinks too many.
This is evident from the fact that the return journey from Poonch to Jammu was covered by same set of drivers in barely six hours while the day journey was completed in more than 7 hours.
The return journey period included break for dinner at Rajori where these drivers were believed to have gulped down large glasses of liquor without realizing the fact that they have just completed one leg of the journey and half of the distance was still left uncovered.
The organisers, instead of preventing the drivers, looked eager to offer them refill of their glasses in order to keep them in good humour.
Mr Chief Minister it was indeed historic and momentous occasion for your government. Your responsible officers had virtually come closer to push journos down the hill on smooth roads.
Alas! you were not sitting in one of the vehicles else you would have reached Jammu safely and early too and there was no need for you to spend cozy night in Rajouri. Mr Chief Minister We really missed your company.
