| Shiv Market to be developed on modern lines: Bhalla | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, NOVEMBER 29-Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Raman Bhalla has said that the Government is implementing several urban development schemes both in Jammu and Srinagar cities besides development of civic amenities under UIDSSMT scheme in towns.
“Well maintained roads, hygiene, planned housing and availability of civic amenities are being given top priority by the present Government under its urban development initiatives,” he said
The Minister said this while addressing a function at Shiv Market near Railway Station, Jammu, here this morning. The function was organized by Shiv Mandir Sant Sewa Ashram Charitable Trust.
The Minister said that infrastructure development in interior areas of city is being taken up on priority. Referring to the initiatives of Government to improve connectivity in the State, Mr. Bhalla said that Central Government has provided additional package of Rs 1463.20 crore to Jammu and Kashmir for development of road infrastructure while work on fourth bridge on river Tawi is also in the pipeline. On the completion of bridge, the pressure of traffic on main Tawi bridge via Bikram Chowk will be reduced considerably, he maintained.
Mr. Bhalla said that Jammu and Kashmir has vast tourism potential and State Tourism Department have initiated a vigorous campaign for identifying new tourist destinations and promote them on fast-track basis. He said that this would ultimately increase employment avenues for the unemployed educated youth of the State. He said that Government has flagged tourism as the focus area in view of its immense economic importance and potential in the State. “No stone would be left unturned to develop tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir”, he added. He said that a comprehensive plan for developing Jammu as a model city through landscaping, beautification and anti-polythene drive is also being implemented. He said that Government is working on a plan to decongest the city and create green lungs at all crowded site.
Later, a deputation of Shiv Mandir Sant Sewa Ashram Charitable Trust met the Minister and projected their problems including blacktopping of the road from main gate of Shiv temple to Masjid Sharief passing through Shiv market, installation of flood lights opposite Vaishnavi Dham, maintenance of hand pump, deployment of safai karamcharis in and around the temple area, installation of high mast light at the main chowk of Railway station.
Mr. Bhalla gave patient hearing to them and issued instructions to the concerned authorities for their redressal. Regarding blacktopping and laying of tiles in Shiv Market, the Minister asked the R&B authorities to prepare an estimate and submit for funding so that the work could start at the earliest. |
