| Saroori announces Rs.1Cr for Kishtwar-Chingam Road | | | Early Times Report Jammu, NOVEMBER 30 – Reiterating Government’s commitment to connect all the far-flung and rural areas of the State by road network, the Minister for Roads and Buildings, Mr. G.M. Saroori has said that the State Government is executing various works under Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Central Road Fund and other State sponsored schemes in the State. Addressing a public meeting at Chatroo, Kishtwar today, the Minister said that the endeavour of the Government is to improve basic amenities across the State and for that road connectivity is imperative. He thanked Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi for their positive approach to the development of the State, which is evident from the liberal financial assistance by the Centre. Mr. Saroori said that the erstwhile Doda district lagged behind in road connectivity but due to the concerted efforts of the former Chief Minister, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, this sector in the district received focused attention. He reiterated that the road network in the erstwhile Doda district would be improved keeping in view its hilly terrain and the inconvenience to the people in commuting from one region to another. He said under PMGSY phase-VII, a number of habitations are being connected with towns and urban areas by link roads. Referring to some major achievements of the Government in improving road connectivity in the State, the Minister said that reopening of historic Mughal road is a landmark initiative of the Government. He said that the Centre has agreed to fully fund the construction of Mughal Road, adding that the road would be thrown open for general public in June next year. He said work on Kisthwar-Simthen-Kokernag road is also being completed which will connect erstwhile district Doda with the Kashmir valley. Calling upon the people to be vigilant against vested elements hell bent on disrupting the peaceful atmosphere in the State, he said that the present Government does not believe in rhetoric but its performance on ground will speak for itself. He sought people’s co-operation for making Jammu and Kashmir a model State of the country. Later, the Minister inspected the site of Singpora-Viloo tunnel which would connect with Kishtwar-Kokernag road. He announced Rs. one crore for upgradation of Kisthwar-Chingam road. He also inspected the upgradation work on Ponder Khul-Dachhin road and directed the concerned authorities to accelerate the work for ensuring its timely completion. He said this road would not only provide feeding channel to Bursar and Pukhadul Power projects but, it will also redress the long pending demand of the villagers of Pathi, Mohal and Dug Duroo.
