| Lt. Gen Sapru, GOC-IN C Western Command hung his uniform | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 30- Lt Gen TK Sapru superannuated today after 40 illustrious years of service with the Indian Army. During his 4 decade long service he performed multifarious duties on command and staff appointments in Indian Army, with distinction. He commanded and infantry brigade in Punjab, division in Akhnoor and a corps in J&K. He also held a prestigious appointment in Operation Directorate at Army HQ. The General was commissioned in Gorkha Rifles in 1969 and saw action on Bangladesh and West Pakistan fronts during 1971 war. The General is luminary from Defence Services Staff College Wellington, Higher Command from Army war College and National Def College. He took over the reigns of Western Command on 01 Nov 2007 and brought about a sea change in operational and administrative arena of the command. He was an able architect, in breathing new life in civil-military relations with the Governments of Punjab, Haryana HP and UT Chandigarh and catalyzed new welfare schemes for serving and retired army personnel. He drew special praise for this work from his civilian counterparts. On the administration side he continuously strived and succeeded in improving the quality of life, modern health care facilities, sports and education facilities, for officers and PBOR. Chandigarh station saw a quantum improvement in station amenities during his tenure.
