| Annual NSS camp | | | Early Times report Jammu, Dec 1: The NSS unit of Trikuta Degree College organized seven day annual NSS camp on the theme, “Man and Environment”, from 29th of November to 5th of December 2009. The camp is being organized at village Bajwan, Nardni-Raipur adopted by the volunteers. To mark world AIDS Day, the volunteers delivered awareness lectures on AIDS in the premises of government middle school Bajwan. While speaking Kiran of BA-Part I urged upon the gathering to discuss AIDS among friends, relatives and teachers to know more about AIDS.
Earlier, chairman of the college inaugurated the camp and applauded the role of NSS in creating awareness regarding the AIDS, Ecology, Global warming, Dowry, Drugs and use of other intoxicating etc. While interacting with the media, Dr. Gayatri Gupta apprized them about the activities which will be carried out during the 7 day camp including showing of documentaries, nukkad nataks, rallies, lectures, symposium, and poster making competition etc. Shamsher Singh, department of environment, Harveen Singh of political science and Kuldeep Singh, programme officer of the NSS was also present.
Meanwhile to observe world AIDS day a series of lectures and counseling programme were organized by the department of microbiology, government medical college, Jammu under the guidance of professor and Head Dr. Bella Mahajan here today.
Lectures on “reproductive health in adolescence” with emphasis on HIV/ AIDS were delivered in various high schools of the city by the experts. The lectures were followed subsequently by group counseling programmes targeting the young adolescents.
Meanwhile on the occasion of the “World AIDS Day” people’s association for social reforms and justice (PASJ) organized an awareness drive and PASJ members distributed pamphlets containing information about AIDS to the youth in various areas of Jammu and also near educational institutions like Kachi Chawni area, Sant Rocha Singh Degree College, GGM Science College and Ranbir Higher Secondary. Chairman PASJ JS Rissam said that the purpose for distributing this informative material was to create more awareness among people about this deadly disease and measures needed for preventing the spread of the disease because the only effective way to check the spreading of this disease is to create mass awareness among the youth and the people regarding AIDS. The doubts in the minds of the youth regarding spreading and prevention of AIDS were also cleared in this drive. |
