| Anganwadi workers stopped to march civil secretariat | | Holds sit in at Exhibition grounds | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 1: Police today barred the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers from staging protest rally and marching towards Divisional Commissioner’s office here in support of their demands. According to reports, the police did not allow the Anganwadi workers and helpers to hold protest March to Civil Secretariat in support of their demands of increasing their salaries. Large number of Anganwadi Workers and helpers today assembled at Exhibition ground this morning under the banner of Anganwadi Workers Welfare Association (AWWA) in response to its Civil Secretariat march. However, Police deployed there not allowed the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers to take out protest rally. The protesting Anganwadi workers and helpers then sat on dharna outside Exhibition Ground. They were raising slogans against the Government and sought explanation as to what they have been ignored by the Government. However, they lifted the dharna following assurance by the Director Social Welfare, who personally visited the spot that he will take up their matter with the high ups in the administration for early redressal. Accusing government of its adamant attitude towards workers, the AWWA leaders said that it is a matter of serious concern that successive State Governments have not increased their salary for the last 23 years and in this unprecedented price hike, Anganwadi workers and helpers were facing difficulties to survive. The Association is demanding hike in salary to Rs 5000 to Aanganwadi workers and Rs 3000 to helpers, besides release of pending salary of last five months, supply of wheat as Nutrition to centres and making all AWWs as supervisors by amending Rules on the pattern of Himachal and Orrisa Governments.
