| 395 LoC infiltrations bids recorded in year | | | Early Times Report New Delhi, Dec 1: There was increase in number of infiltration cases along Line of Control (J and K) this year, Lok Sabha was informed today. According to the data furnished by Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran in reply to a written question, a total of 395 cases of apprehension of infiltration were reported this year as compared to 342 in 2008. Whereas, there was decline in possible infiltration along Indo-Bangladesh border as 2,098 cases were reported as against 3,175 in last year. The Government, however, said there is an "overall decline" in infiltration. "The activities of infiltration from across the border takes place clandestinely, therefore, the same cannot be quantified. Available information about apprehension of infiltrators indicates a decline in cross border infiltration on the Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu and Kashmir and along the Indo-Bangladesh borders," the Minister said. He said "there is no specific input about nexus between insurgent groups and illegal Bangladeshi migrants in general." There were 573 cases of apprehension of infiltration reported in 2006 and 535 in 2007 along Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, the data said.
