Govt okays 2000 paramedic posts

Jammu, Dec 1: In what can be seen as an advance new year gift to the aspiring paramedics as well as the ailing populace in rural areas, the government today approved creation of 2000 posts in the health department.
The decision taken in a high level meeting chaired by Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather and attended by Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma besides Finance and Health Secretaries is aimed at providing adequate staff in staff deficient hospitals in the Health Department, particularly in remote and far-flung areas.
Speaking on the occasion, the Finance Minister said that the Government is committed to provide better medical facilities to patients for which liberal financial support is being provided. . He said creation of additional 2000 posts in Health Department is a step forward to mitigate the sufferings of the patients in staff deficient hospital. He said Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah is also keen to improve and upgrade the health infrastructure in the State adding that priorities is being given to provide modern diagnostic equipment in hospitals and constructing specious hospital buildings with focus on remote areas of the State.
Mr. Rather exhorted medicos and para-medics to work with commitment and social obligation for serving the people.
“While the Government was committed to improve the service conditions of doctors and other staff in the hospitals, they too have an obligation to discharge their duties as per the expectations of the people”, Mr. Rather added.
Speaking on the occasion, the Health Minister said that a series of measures have been initiated to bring reforms in the Health sector adding that rationalization of staff in the hospitals is being effected soon so that staff is posted in hospitals, as per the requirements of the people in respective areas.
He said professional auditing has been started in each hospital to make doctors and para-medical staff responsible and accountable. “We have to adopt a realistic and need based approach to make health institutions adequately functional to meet the expectations of the people, who have pinned high hopes with the present dispensation”, Mr. Sharma said, adding that the public representatives and people would also be roped in for this purpose.
Mr. Sham Lal said a foolproof system has been adopted in the hospitals to check pilferage of revenue on account of admit cards and for conducting various diagnostic tests, adding that the funds so generated would be used for repairing and maintaining the hospitals.
