| LT GEN KS JAMWAL, AVSM, VSM COLONEL COMMANDANT ARMY AVIATION CORPS VISITS “SATWARI BOMBERS” | | | Udhampur, Oct 05, 2006
Lt Gen KS Jamwal, AVSM, VSM** General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, ARTRAC and Colonel Commandant of Army Aviation Corps accompanied by his wife Mrs Mala Jamwal, President AWWA, ARTRAC visited the 9 Recce & Obsn Flight at Udhampur, yesterday fondly referred to as “SATWARI BOMBERS”. He was briefed by Lt Col S Kashyap, the Flight Commander on the salient achievements of the Flt in the recent past. The General conveyed his appreciation to the “SATWARI BOMBERS” team and he emphasized that having achieved such high standards, it is important that these standards be maintained. He lauded the Flights performance in flying operations, serviceability state, training, discipline and administration. Lt Gen Jamwal, himself an aviator had served in the Flight from Jun 1973 to Jul 1974. He recalled his tenure with the Flight when the Flight was located at Satwari, Jammu. He later paid homage to the martyrs at the “SATWARI BOMBERS” war memorial by laying a wreath there. During interaction with the Officers and JCOs of the Flight. Lt Gen Jamwal presented a memento which was received by the Flight Commander Lt Col S Kashyap.
The flight has been commended for maintaining high operational and training standards. The Flight carries out operational flying including operational reconnaissance in challenging weather and difficult terrain during various missions year round from Udhampur. The valiant pilots of this Flight have undertaken numerous missions in which they have picked up casualties from unprepared locations in Counter Insurgency Operations. During past 9 months the Flight evacuated 10 casualties, more than half of them from inhospitable terrain and in marginal weather conditions. “SATWARI BOMBERS” is the only Flight in Army Aviation Corps, which is the recipient of Maha Vir Chakra during 1971 Indo-Pak war and has got the highest number of honours and awards in the history of Army Aviation Corps. Mrs Mala Jamwal who accompanied the General was received by Mrs Smriti Kashyap and interacted with the ladies of the Flight.
