Sports infrastructure in rural schools to get priority: Chib

UDHAMPUR, DEC-02:- The Minister for Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Mr. R.S. Chib has asserted that the Coalition Government is committed to provide infrastructural facilities to promote the sports activities across the State with focus on covering rural educational institutions.

Mr. Chib who was on a one-day extensive tour of Udhampur, to take stock of functioning of Departments under his control, was talking to media persons, here today.

The Minister said that efforts are afoot to develop the existing sports stadium, Udhampur on modern lines with the construction 3-storeyed pavilion, swimming pool, shooting range, trekking facility, approach roads, flood lights and construction of lanes and drains etc. For the purpose, an amount of Rs.8 Crore has been envisaged and by the end of current financial year, Rs. One crore would be spent, he added.

The Minister said that the Centre has been approached to provide funds for construction of another Youth Hostel near the Stadium for the facility of sports persons in general and outsiders in particulars.

The Minister said that the Sports Department is contemplating to utilizes the services coaches for imparting training to the students at gross root level to boost sports activities so that best sports talent could be exploited. He said that the vacant posts of coaches at district level would be filled soon for the purpose.

The Minister s aid about 100 kanals of land is being acquired to construct new buildings for ITI and Polytechnic College s in Udhampur under centrally sponsored skill development Mission as the existing buildings are insufficient.

Mr. Chib was also accorded grand reception by the members of Youth Hostel Association of India in a simple function held in the premises of Shivalik College of Education, Udhampur.

Earlier, the Minister accompanied by the local MLA, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia, former Minister Yash Paul Khajuria, District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. Ajay Khajuria, SSP Udhampur, Mr. Surinder Gupta, Councilors, and other senior officers visited village Sui near Udhampur town to inspect the piece of land proposed for construction of Polytechnic and ITI there. He also inspected Sports Stadium, and the District Hospital.
