| Change in plans of Upgradation of GMC&H has delayed the project: Prof Gupta | | | Early Times Report Jammu Dec 2 Alleging continuance of regional bias against Jammu even by this coalition of the Congress-National Conference, the leader of the BJP legislators party, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has questioned the wisdom in changing the plan for upgradation of the Govt. Medical College of Jammu to the level of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) as also providing little funds for removing the congestion in this capital city of Jammu as also to execute the other development projects which are hanging fire for years together. Prof Gupta while interacting with people during weekly sitting at party headquarters under Mass Contact Programme, took note of the problems facing the people, especially to his Jammu West Assembly Constituency, the deputations of the areas pointed out to the sad plight of the medical services as also the growing congestion and other problems facing the inhabitants. The BJP leader recalled that the foundation stone for raising the status of Jammu Medical College to that of All India Institute of Medical sciences was laid by the then Union Health Minister, Smt. Sushma Swaraj as far back as in 2003 in the premises of CD Hospital and provision of Rs. 120 crores was made to complete the task within five years. “But after the change of guards at the Centre, the coalition adopted go slow tactics and the entire original plan has been changed with leaving little chances for its expansion, he alleged and added that despite expiry of seven years now, the whole scheme is hanging fire and the plight of this premier institute linked with the health care is before all of us. Referring to the traffic congestion in this capital city, Prof Gupta regretted that poor funding and slow work are coming in the way of construction of fly overs and improving the sanitation affairs. He said the government sanctioned rupee 60 crores for Jammu while rupees 150 crores has been earmarked for Srinagar city for the purpose, which is yet another glaring example of discrimination with the Jammu region at the hands of the coalition government, which has been repeatedly claiming of fair deal to all the three regions of the state. The deputationists also complained of poor health-care facilities in absence of adequate medical staff in government hospitals.
