| Handa college organizes AIDS awareness seminar | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 2: A seminar on causes and prevention of AIDS was organized by Handa College of education here today. As per press release chairperson of college Veena Handa highlighted the need and importance for prevention of this dreaded disease syndrome. She said India has the third large number of HIV patients in the world an there is an urgent need for increasing the awareness about the disease among the masses in general and high risk group in particular. She highlighted the need and importance for prevention of AIDS as there is no permanent cure available for this or else India may emerge as the dubious leader with the highest number of AIDS cases in the world and lauded he efforts of the red ribbon expresses, the initiative of the government of India to increase awareness about AIDS and also urged the student community and the future teachers to carry forward the message being propagated by the same. She said people must be made aware about the preventive measures to contain the spread of AIDS. The deputy director state AIDS prevention and control society, Dr. Sajjad Shafi who presided over the function highlighted the need of prevention of the spread of this deadly virus. He also highlighted the various programmes being organized by the state AIDS prevention and control society for the spread of awareness of this disease. Students of the college spoke on the topic at length and in the end took a pledge that every month they would educate at least 10 individuals in the high risk groups to increase awareness regarding AIDS and ways to prevent its spread, Dr. Vikram Handa answered the queries regarding the Aids.
