| CONFIDENCE BUILDING MEASURES : WORKING GROUP MEETING ON OCTOBER 9 | | | Jammu, October 5 : Will improvement in trade ties between India and Pakistan via Jammu and Kashmir as part of confidence building measures figure during the second round of meeting of working group constituted by Prime Minister Mammohan Singh on strengthening relations across the Line of control? The question has assumed significance in the context of the meeting of the working group scheduled to be held in Jammu on October 9 which is to be presided over by the chairman of the working group Mr MK Rasgotra, former secretary external affairs ministry. India and Pakistan have already initiated confidence building measures under which two border routes one in Uri and the other in Poonch were reopened for promoting people to people contact. The meeting of the working group on Confidence building measures in Jammu is expected to identify areas and issues which needed to be given proper consideration by Delhi and Islamabad in order to further strengthen the Confidence building measures. The working group may also debate ways and means which could lead to the removal of alienation of a section of Kashmiris so that they too join the national mainstream. Informed sources said that the members of the working group may also discuss the demand for opening Sucehtgarh Sialkote Kargil Skardu routes for traffic and import and export business between Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir. |
