PCB observes National Pollution Control Day

Rajouri, Dec 03- To mark the 25th anniversary of Bhopal gas tragedy the worst industrial accident in the world in which 1, 20, 000 people exposed to poisonous Methyl Isocyanides which is 500 times more poisonous than cyanide, the State Pollution Control Board observed National Pollution Control Day at Higher School, Kallar today.

ZEO Dungi Nirmal Gupta was chief guest at the function, Baddar Hussain Incharge District Pollution Control Board was guest honour while Jamila Akhter Headmistress High School, Kallar presided over the function.

Referring to importance of Day, Incharge SPCB Baddar Hussian in his address stressed the need for checking such human tragedies triggered by mismanagement and un- preparedness for industrial disaster thriving in various industrial and non-industrial zones. He further said that we must prepare for tackling problem of climate change which could be more disastrous than Bhopal Gas Tragedy. He stressed the need for more plantations and lunching of anti-pollution drive in the local areas.

ZEO expressed shock over the rapid deforestation and unabated industrial pollution in the district. She said that it is the duty of every citizen to fight for pollution control and ensure protection from rapid deforestation and forest fire. She criticized the Municipal Committee for unscientific disposal and burning of the municipal waste on the bank of river Manwar Tawi, the lifeline of Rajouri city. She exhorted teachers and student to come forward for tackling environmental problems through awareness and anti-pollution movements.

On this occasion a debating competition on the topic ‘pollution prevention and climate change’ was also organized in which students from various schools of the zone participated. Munish Sharma and Sima Kouser of GHS Kallar got first and second position and Vandana Kessar of GHSS, Kallar fetched 3rd place. Beside, consolation prizes were also distributed among all speakers.
