| Lt. Gen Ghosh takes over as GOC-in-C WC | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 3- Lt Gen Shankar Ranjan Ghosh, today took over as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the prestigious Western Command. Soon after taking over he visited ‘Veer Smriti’ the Western Command War Memorial to pay tributes to the martyrs and inspected the guard of honour presented by Officers and Jawans of 6th Sikh Regiment. The General met all the senior officers of the Command and interacted with them. His wife Bulbul Ghosh, IDAS, Controller General of Defence Account and also took charge of local AWWA as President AWWA (Local). Senior officers and their families were present to witness the ceremony. Educated at ST Joseph’s Collage, Nainital, Gen Ghosh joined the National Defence Academy and was commissioned on November 14, 1971 and immediately participated in the Indo-Pak war in J&K. He held very challenging and selective appointments, both in staff and command. His staff appointments include Brigade Major of a Mountain Brigade, Military Operation directorate at Army HQs, Director Manpower Planning at army HQs, and Brigadier general Staff at Indian Military Academy, Defence and Military Attaché at Embassy of India, USA and Additional DG Manpower (Planning Na Policy) at Army HQ. He is a graduate of Staff College and Higher Command course. His Commands include a Brigade in active Sector on Line of control where he was awarded Sena Medal, GOC of a Division in Strike Corps and GOC of a Strike Corps.
