| Modern Trends in Education | | Former HPU VC delivers lecture at MEIR College | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 3- Prof. Kundu, former Vice Chancellor Himachal Pradesh University while delivering lecture on ‘Modern trends in Education’ specially focused on the concept of bilateral obligation, which is a new concept in education that has originated from African countries where the teacher has to spell out the objectives, motivate the students to learn and finally monitor their progress The students on their part actively interact with the teacher and show output and the teaching process is restricted to only half of the time and remaining half time is used for knowledge sharing cum discussion, he said. In this way teaching becomes bilateral obligation on the part of the teacher and the taught. He also stressed on the concept of homeostasis where balance between physical and mental makeup should be maintained for harmonious development of personality of the students. He also interacted with the students and stressed upon the three aspects of teaching – learning i.e. thesis, anti-thesis and synthesis which will be helpful in developing critical thinking and reasoning in the students. As part of its guest lecture series, the Post Graduate Department of Education organized an interactive session in MIER College where Prof Kundu delivered his guest lecture. He also stressed on giving due importance to the usage of ICT in the classrooms which will help the students to understand the content in a better manner. He thanked the organizers for arranging the interaction and also congratulated the management for providing excellent infrastructural facilities for the students. Dr. Arun Gupta Chairman, MIER who was the guest of honour described Prof Kundu as an eminent educationist and researcher of national and international repute who has served the cause of quality education for over five decades and has been instrumental in bringing innovative changes in the field of education. Earlier, Dr Renu Gupta Principal of the college welcomed the honoured guests and gave a brief of the activities of the Post Graduate Department of Education Prof. B.L. Raina, Head of the Post Graduate Department proposed a vote of thanks to the dignitaries present. He disclosed that leading educationists are being invited to interact with the M.Ed students to sharpen their skills and sensibilities so that the students can emerge as effective teacher educators in the context of 21st century.
