Academy’s talent hunt big hit among rural youth

Jammu, Dec 03- During the second day of the first ever state sponsored talent hunt, the youth of Rajouri mesmerised audience with their melodious renditions. The day began with Urdu and Dogri songs sung by budding singers which were followed by Pahari and Gojri folk and light music renditions.
Interestingly, this is for the first time that such a contest has been launched by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages for exploring talent among the rustic comprising rural and pastoral communities. It is being held at Himalayan Mission College, Rajouri.
During the five day long contest the youth of the district would be adjudged in different fields like dance, singing, and mimicry, calligraphy, sculpting and painting by a team of experts. To encourage the students as many as 80 awards, carrying cash prizes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 each, will be given.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were JP Singh, district development commissioner, Rajouri, noted academics HL Pandita and Nisar Rahi and Farooq Muztar among others.
Commenting on the aims and objectives of the contest Secretary Academy, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas said that the contest would be held across the state so that genuine talent could be explored and promoted.
Seeking cooperation of the local administration he said that the Cultural Academy would achieve its goals only if all segments of the society including local administration lent it their support.
Pertinently, through the just launched talent hunt the state Cultural Academy intends to explore and promote hidden talent of the villagers comprising rural and pastoral communities. Those adjudged best will be awarded prizes and would be given opportunities to perform at different places within and outside the state.
After Rajouri the contest will be held in Poonch following which the Cultural Academy would move to the old Baramulla district comprising Kupwara, Baramulla and Bandipora where budding artists would be given the same platform so as to project and promote their talent.
