| Ensure adequate essential services in remote areas: Shabir to officers | | | Early Times Report Kathua, December 03- Minister of State for Power, CA&PD, Transport, Forest, Labour and Employment Mr. Shabir Ahmed Khan, today asked the officers to ensure availability of adequate essential services in remote areas.
Interacting with locals and Government functionaries during his one day extensive tour to the parts of Kathua district, the Minister said that satiating aspirations of people and their developmental needs was top priority of the present Government. He said fresh initiatives taken by the Government to ensure timely and smooth availability of various utility services in remote areas are being closely monitored. He asked the Government functionaries to work in close liaison with public representatives to know about the problems being faced by people.
Accompanied by officers during his tour, the Minister inspected CA&PD sale outlets and other offices under his control. He inspected the main food grainery at Kathua and checked the quality of food grains available in the godown. He directed concerned authorities to ensure timely lifting and distribution of ration to enable rationees to get the food grains well before the end of month.
The Minister also inspected RTO Office Kathua and enquired about the revenue collection. He was informed that the office has earned revenue of Rs 5.26 crores till date which is expected to touch Rs 9.40 crore by the end of the current fiscal year. He asked authorities to further streamline the revenue collection mechanism and checking of commercial vehicles to contain violation of road safety measures.
Later, the Minister chaired a joint meeting of the Departments under his control and reviewed their functioning. He was apprised that PDD has collected revenue of Rs 53.4 crore as power tariff till date which is likely to touch Rs 90 crore mark by end of the year.
The District Development Commissioner and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
The Minister was also informed that Rs 32 crore was being expended to improve transmission and distribution of power in the district. He was told that the sub-receiving stations Hiranagar-II and Barnota, being developed at a cumulative cost of Rs 3.34 crore, would be commissioned by the end of current financial year.
While reviewing the functioning of CA&PD department, the Minister was told that 32, 000 quintals of food grains have been distributed among the consumers during the last month. He was further informed that the department has started distribution of K-oil in Hiranagar through mobile vans with the twin purpose of containing black marketing and availability of the same at the doorsteps of the people which has helped to save 21,000 liter of K-oil during the last month.
Appreciating the reform measures taken by the Department, the Minister directed the officers to introduce same system of distribution of K-Oil in other towns as well. Mr. Khan also instructed for intensifying drives to check profiteering and hoarding.
While reviewing the functioning of Labour and Employment Departments, the Minister was told that 32,000 unemployed educated youth have been registered with the District Employment Exchange till date. He was further informed that 800 small scale industrial units are functioning in the district, providing employment to over 12,000 local youth. He directed for registering all industrial units in the district and to ensure that anti-pollution devices are installed at each unit.
Functioning of the Forest Department also came under discussion during which the Minister stressed for launching massive aforestation drives to bring more and more land under forest cover.
