| Bhalla distributes compensation cheques among refugees | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, DECEMBER 03- Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Raman Bhalla today distributed the cheques worth Rs. 1.94 crore among 184 displaced persons of 1947 at a function held at Gaddigarh in Karanbagh, here this afternoon.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhalla said that Government was aware of the problems of refugees, adding that the sanction has been accorded to payment of Rs.30,000 per kanal instead of Rs. 5000/- per kanal as compensation for land deficiency subject to a maximum of Rs. 1,50,000 per 5 kanals and above land deficiency to displaced persons from Pakistan occupied Kashmir of 1947. He asked the left out displaced persons to complete all the necessary formalities so that compensation can be disbursed among them after proper verification.
The Minister said that due to concerted efforts of Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah, two basties of 1947 refugees in Gaddigarh and Bhour camp have been declared as ‘Abadideh’ under Common Regularisation Act, 1956, adding that remaining refugees inhabitation would also be regularised soon.
Mr. Bhalla asked the illegal occupants to vacate Government land voluntarily or face stern action. He said that under a comprehensive plan for the smaller towns, coalition Government will construct tube wells in the peripheral towns so that they match the civic amenities of major cities, overhead tanks, roads, schools, colleges etc.
Mr. Bhalla said that measures are underway to restore the status of Numbardars and Chowkidars adding that proper uniforms will be provided to them, so that they are recognized as per their status. He said Numberdars and Chowkidars act as bridge between administration and the people. He said that Government has already enhanced the monthly honorarium of Numberdars from Rs.81 to Rs.501 and Chowkidars from Rs.225 to Rs.500 from April, 2007. He asked the Numberdars and Chowkidars to monitor the development works on ground and provide feedback to the Government.
Later, at Barzala in Raipur-Satwari, the Minister laid foundation of 1533 meter lane and drain work and blacktopping Upper Barzala-Lower Barzula link road besides laying 600 meter by-lane at a cost of Rs. 75 lakh by R&B department.
He said that Government has approved Rs. 50 lakh for construction of community hall in Barzala, Raipur-Satwari.
At Bhour Camp Ward No. 1 and Lower Gaddigarh, the Minister also laid foundation of upgradation of lanes to be completed at a cost of Rs. 9.30 lakh.
