| Symposium On Environmental Degradation in ‘Shivaliks Eco System’ Held | | | Early Times Report Hiranagar, Dec 4: A inter-collegiate symposium on environmental degradation in ‘Shivalik Eco-System’ jointly organized by Government Girdhari Lal Dogra College and Department of Forest was held in the College premises here today. About 15 government college of the region took part in the symposium. The symposium which was inaugurated by the minister for co-operatives and higher education Dr Manohar Lal Sharma on the occasion said, that the ‘Shivaliks play a very effective role in the socio economic and also ecological aspects of the Kandi region of the state and added Shivaliks are facing serious ecological threat by un-sustainable development of the region. The Joint director of state forest protection force, MJ Sharma, Shivalik project co-ordinator HS Slathia, Principal of Dogra College Dr. Nater Singh Raina, and MLC Sharma also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the factors responsible for ecological degradation of Shivalik hills. The students who won prizes were awarded by minister Sharma include Rittan Sharma of Government Degree college, Hiranagar, Rupali Sharma of Government degree college boys, Kumari Suman of government degree college, Samba stood Ist, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Certificate of merit were given to Manisha Kumari of Government degree college, Kathua and Harpreet of Government degree college for women Gandhi Nagar. Dr Deep Shikha Sharma conducted the programme, while Prof. Shalini Raina presented vote of thanks.
