Several functions held across region

Jammu, Dec 5- Several functions marked the celebration of 104th birth anniversary of founder of National Conference Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah across Jammu region today.
An impressive function was held by National Conference at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan which was presided over by the provincial president of the party Rattan Lal Gupta. The participants at the function paid rich tributes to late Abdullah and recalled his services for the development and spreading education in the state.
Minister for Industries and Commerce Surjit Singh Salathia, Minister for Forests Mian Altaf and Minister for Transport-Food Supplies, Qamar Ali Akhoon were the senior leaders among others present on the occasion. Earlier, in the morning Quran Khawani was performed at party headquarters, after which fruits and eatables were distributed among the inmates of Vrid Ashram Amphalla.
Paying rich tributes to late Abdullah, Member Raja Sabha and former minister Mohammed Shafi Uri said that Sheikh Abdullah was a leader of international fame who devoted his life for the cause of secularism and freedom of speech. He said that Sheikh rejected two nation theories out rightly and developed the state in all most all the aspects. He said that all the issues could be solved on the table and there is no scope for the violence.
Altaf while paying tributes to Sheikh said that he was believer of secularism and always fought for the cause of down trodden people. He said that Sheikh launched various schemes for poor and downtrodden including land to tillers.
While paying tributes to the late leader Rattan Lal Gupta said Sheikh was among the tallest leaders who fought for the freedom of India. He said that Sheikh never compromised with the communal forces and his services would be remembered always. He called upon the workers of the party to strengthen the party at grass root.
SS Salathia also paid rich tributes to Sheikh and recalled his services for the upliftment of poor and down trodden in the state.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Ajaz Jan, TS Wazir, Ajay Sadhotra, Rachpal Singh, MR Qureshi, M A Goni, Bimla Luthra, Laximi Dutta, Zubeda Salaria Ch. Talib Hussain, Brij Mohan Sharma, Satpal Lakhotra, T. S Tony, Sham Mehra, S. N Manyal, K. L Bhagat, Ramesh Motton, Mohinder Singh, Rampal, Mushtaq Bukhari, Bashir Ahmed Khatana, Pardeep Bali, Chander Mohan Sharma, S. S Bunty, S. S Jamwal, Dilshad Malik, Shamshad, Satya Jamwal, Satwant Kour, Veena Oberio, Lalita Sharma, Kuldeep Kour, Daljeet Sharma, Ch Shaffi, Akhter Hussain, Nar Singh, Sanjay Singh and Vinod Bhalla were also present on the occasion.
A similar function was held at Udhampur which was presided over by Sunil Verma. Hundreds of party workers from different parts of the district participated and paid rich tributes to their departed leader.
Speaking on the occasion Sunil Verma said that firebrand secular leader of all the time implemented the agrarian reforms to give the rights to the tiller which till date has not been implemented in any part of the country. He added that "developments achieved by Sher-i-Kashmir are an open book for all and the greatest need of the time is to educate the younger generation about it".
National Conference unit Bhaderwah also organized a function to celebrate the day. Hundreds of party workers and members of the civil society participated in the function held under the chairmanship of block president Mohammed Ashraf Goni and paid rich tributes to late Abdullah.
A free medical check up camp was organized by the District National Conference unit in BAL Ashram on 104th Birth Anniversary of late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah at Kathua. The camp was organized under the leadership of the district President Dhain Chand. In addition to the medical check up, books and study material was distributed among the orphan students. The camp was attended by all walks of the people who paid rich tributes to the late Abdullah.
