TUF felicitates Shahid for making it to IAS

Jammu, Dec 5: The J&K Tribal Untied Forum (TUF) headed by its chairman Roshan Din Choudhary felicitated Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, a veterinary surgeon turned IFS officer who became first Gujjar to qualify Indian administrative service (IAS) 2009 at a function held in his honour here today.
The function was attended by a large gathering of community members drawn from different walks of life. Top officers from the community, lawyers, engineers, political and social workers attended the felicitation event and shared their views on educational and social upliftment of the Gujjars.
Speaking on the occasion, vice chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Masud Choudhary was the chief guest while expressing happiness, showered all praise for Dr Iqbal for his achievement and hoped that in coming years more and more youth from the community will pass this coveted examination.
Veteran activist and Secretary of Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation Dr Javaid Rahi said that Shahid’s selection into IAS marks the beginning of an educational renaissance among the Gujjars and it should be followed by other youths. He called upon the community organizations to organize interactions of such inspiring youths with aspiring youths of the community so as to script many success stories.
It may be mentioned Dr Choudhary has been selected for IAS scoring 51 in open merit. Presently working as Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Jammu, Shahid who belongs to Gujjar community was selected for Indian Forest Service (IFS) in 2005 batch and allotted Jammu and Kashmir cadre. An alumnus of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology (SKUAST-J) Shahib completed his BVSC & AH degree in 2005. He served as ACF Poonch and DFO working plan, DFO Srinagar before joining DFO Jammu this year.
President TUF while congratulating wished him a brilliant service ahead. He further stressed upon the young aspirants of the community to work on his footsteps to face such competitions.
Prominent among others who spoke on the occasion were Mohammad Sadiq Azad Zabeer Ahmed Bajjar, Advocate Khalid Mustafa Bhatti, Ali Hussan Haqla, Nisar Lodhi, Mohammad Akram Qasmi, Mohd. Hanif and Mohammad Rafiq while vote of thanks was presented by Shah Mohd Baniya.
