| Pakistan fears Taliban infiltration from Afghanistan | | | Early Times Report New Delhi, Dec 5: The establishment in Islamabad has conveyed its fears to the American Government over its decision to send 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan. Islamabad’s fears, according to reports reaching here from across the border, are based on the plan of the Talibans and the Al Qaeda, operating in Afghanistan, to cross into Pakistan. The reports said that Islamabad believes that once the NATO forces mounted offensive against the Talibans and the Al Qaeda in Afghanistan their activists and leaders would sneak into Pakistan to escape arrest and elimination at the hands of the American troops. Their infiltration into Pakistan would be part of their strategy to bide time so that after the US troops pulled out of Afghanistan they could resurface in a big way and capture the entire country. Already some top Al Qaeda leaders have been spotted moving freely in Quetta area of Pakistan. Those who have spotted them believe that with more American troops being sent to Afghanistan the US involvement in fighting terrorists may be extended from Afghanistan to the border belts of Pakistan, especially Waziristan. The leadership in Pakistan has supported the American decision on sending additional forces to Afghanistan but with a rider that it could kick up subversive violence in Pakistan after activists and leaders of the Al Qaeda and the Talibans sneak into Pakistan. The establishment in Islamabad is already rattled by the massive suicide attacks in which besides civilians top Army and police official have been killed. It believes that these suicide attacks were aimed at forcing the Pak Army, which has launched massive operations against the terrorists in the Swat Valley and in Waziristan, to be on the defensive. As a result of these fears Pakistan would have opposed the American plan on sending more troops to Afghanistan but it could not do so because of the assurance it has received from the US President,Barack Obama, that America would continue to give military and non-military aid provided it supported the US drive against the terrorists. In fact the military operations launched by Pakistan against the Talibans in the Swat valley and in Waziristan were the result of pressure mounted by the US Government. Pakistan's economy has been the brink of a collapse and it has been the result of heavy American non-military aid that has enabled Islamabad to save he country from total bankruptcy.Reports indicate that in case the Talibans infiltrate into Pakistan from Afghanistan following US Army offensive the US Govrnment may intensify drone attacks in the border areas of Pakistan against the Talibans and the Al Qaeda.
