| Life paralysed in Kashmir due to strike against attack on Qureshi | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 5 : Life was today crippled due to general strike called by moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) in protest against the attack on its Executive Committee member Fazal Haq Qureshi in the city by unidentified persons last evening. However, life in Baramulla was near normal. Shops and business establishments in the civil lines, downtown and Shehar-e-Khas remained closed and traffic was off the roads due to the strike. However, in the uptown, life was near normal with shops open and traffic plying normally. The government offices, educational institutions, banks and ration depots remained closed on account of holiday on the 104th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, grand father of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. A report from Baramulla said life was normal with shops and business establishments open and traffic plying on all routes normally. However, strike crippled life in Sopore due to the strike. Life was paralysed in south Kashmir district of Anantnag with shops and business establishments closed and traffic off the roads. However, some vehicles were plying between Anantnag and Srinagar. HC chairman Mirwaiz Omar Farooq had called for today's strike in protest against the attack on Mr Qureshi, who is fighting for life in the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) at Soura. He was attacked by some unidentified persons last evening when he was on way to home from a local mosque at Buchpora on the city outskirts.
