Degree College Samba to complete by March 2010: Manohar

JAMMU, DECEMBER 06 – Minister for State for Cooperatives and Higher Education, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma today visited Samba and inspected the ongoing construction work of Rs 4.91 crore Government Degree College, Samba spread over 110 kanals of land.

The Minister was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Samba, Director Colleges, Mr. N.D.Wani and General Manager NBCC, Mr. Hem Raj.

Dr. Manohar visited each block of the college complex and took stock of the construction work. He issued instructions for executing the constructions work double as well as triple shifts and ensure its completion before March 2010, so that college functions properly from the next academic session. He directed the executing agency NBCC to erect a boundary wall around the whole area of 110 kanals to avoid any encroachment for which funds to the tune of Rs one crore has already been transferred.

The Minister desired that a monitoring committee at district level comprising, Director Colleges, Principal of the College and representatives from district administration will be constituted, who will monitor the pace of construction works. The monitoring committee will review the pace of work on monthly basis.

The Minister was also briefed about the faculties of the college by the Principal. The Minister desired that commerce, science and computer science stream should also be introduced.

Dr. Manohar also visited the shrine of Baba Shivo at village Goran, 20 kms away from Samba and prayed for peace and prosperity in the State which has witnessed a long turmoil of 20 years. Thousands of devotees from Pathankot, Punjab and other adjoining areas throng the shrine on every Sundays and Tuesdays to seek the blessings of Baba Shivo.

The Minister issued instructions for constitution of management committee to be headed by the concerned Tehsildar with sarpanch and other villagers, its members who will manage the shrine in a proper way. To facilitate the devotees, the Minister said that the development of the area will be given top priority. He further said that a bridge will be constructed on Sumb nallah which will provide better road connectivity to the area. He also said that under tourism project, a sarai, park and toilet facilities for the pilgrims will also be taken up. A hand pump will also be installed at the shrine. Additional Deputy Commissioner who accompanied the Minister was asked to prepare a project for improvement and upgradation of road connectivity to the Shrine. He said an alternative road will also be constructed which will minimize the distance from 50 km to 11 km to the shrine.
