| Wani for strengthening Cooperative Institutions | | | Early Times Report Doda 6- MLA Doda Abdul Majid Wani, today, asked government to take immediate resolute steps for strengthening of all Cooperative Institutions in J&K as these institutions, more or less, have lost credibility among general public. The condition of, once reputed, organizations like JAKFED, Super Bazar is continuously deteriorating with growing losses and going down operations. The office of the Registrar Cooperative Societies needs to be revamped completely along-with posting of a senior IAS Officer as its head. Wani asked the Cooperative Minister to ensure that office of the Registrar Cooperative Societies does not become a tool in the hands of those responsible for deteriorating condition of Cooperative Institutions, rather serves the cause of the government as well as common man. He said the performance of some financial institutions is not up to the mark, pointing out the poor performance of some Cooperative Banks which are hesitant to implement the rules under which lending facilities are made available for the common masses. He demanded a probe by Crime Branch into the alleged bungling in Cooperative Bank as doubts have been raised in the past also about the mal practices and non adherence of norms while sanctioning lands in few branches of the bank. ‘It should be made mandatory for all Cooperatives Housing Societies, functioning in the state, to develop special housing colonies, exclusively, for low income groups’, he said and added that for this purpose, suitable land may be provided to these cooperative housing societies by the government on low rates. He said the Fruit Growers Cooperative Marketing Societies and other such cooperative institutions, which have turned defunct, are also required to be revitalized and made functional as strengthening of these shall generate employment.
