| At White Knight Corps, soldiers, | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 7: The Army has traditionally followed a path of peace by observing a high degree of Human Rights consciousness while conduct of counter insurgency tasks in the state, said prominent speakers during a seminar organized at Akhnoor. While addressing audience during two day long seminar of Human Rights organized by the White Knight Corps, the speakers underlined that it would be befitting to state that the Army has been imbued with the precepts of mutual tolerance, cooperation, non violence and fighting for a just cause from the roots of our freedom struggle. ‘In addition to the successful conduct of counter insurgency operations the Army has also shown a very high standard of ethical behaviour and professionalism over the years. Its commitment towards children education, women employment and development of infrastructure demonstrates the genuine care Army has for the people of nation and particularly trouble infested states including J&K. Its initiatives under Operation Sadbhavana has helped integrate the people socially, culturally and religiously across the entire spectrum of the population, in troubled areas, the speakers said. They added in consonance with its objective of zero tolerance for Human Rights violations, many sub conventional means and cutting edge technologies have been used by the forces to successfully counter terrorist designs and conduct operations in the Jammu and Kashmir and which has helped reduce terrorism to sub critical levels while ensuring minimum collateral damage to men and material. During the seminar a number of speakers projected their views on various subjects related to Human Rights. Prominent speakers during the seminar were Prof Varun Sahani, VC, Jammu University, Kuldeep Khoda, DG Police (J&K), Shri Nitin Gokhale (Sr Editor, Defence and Strategic Affairs NDTV), Justice (Retired) Sayeed – Bashir – ud-din, Chairman SHRC (J&K), Hon’ble Justice BC Patel, Member NHRC, Brig (Retd) MB Anand, VSM, Mr Balraj Puri, Padma Bhushan, Chairman J&K State Affairs, Maj Gen (Retd) AJS Sandhu, VSM and Lt Gen (Retd) K Davar, PVSM, AVSM. The audience and speakers during the two days seminar were of the unanimous opinion that the Army’s strategy of dealing firmly with terrorism and avoid collateral damage has been exceptionally well executed over the years. Its policy of an “ Iron in a Velvet Glove” and use of Minimum Force The forum opined that Army’s fight against terrorism alongside welfare and protection of civilians will continue to pay rich dividends and is a strategy to be followed by other countries beset with the menace of terrorism.
