| Reservation benefits in J&K | | Confederation stages massive dharna at Jantar Mantar | |
New Delhi, Dec 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Unit of the All India Confederation of SC/ST Organizations under the leadership of State President R. K. Kalsotra and National President, Dr. Udit Raj today staged a massive dharna at Jantar Mantar, here. While addressing the dharna Kalsotra demanded reservation of STs in the state legislature and Parliament, implementation of 27% reservation for OBCs as per Mandal Commission Report in Jammu and Kashmir, introduction of roster based seniority and promotion in the state and filling up of backlog vacancies. He also demanded establishment of State Commission for SC, STs and OBCs He said the Confederation under the leadership of its National Chairman, Dr. Udit Raj, has been carrying on a relentless struggle since 1997 for reservation in the private sector and other important issues and this struggle will go on till the goal of reservation in the private sector is achieved. Dr. Udit Raj, National Chairman, All India Confederation of SC/ST Organizations addressing a large gathering at the dharna site said that the Supreme Court judgment regarding reservation in the post-graduate courses in the medical colleges was detrimental to the interests of SC/ST people. The Supreme Court in its judgment has said that it is the prerogative of the State Government to give reservation to SC/ST people in postgraduate courses and the Central Government has nothing to do with it. He said it was all the more unfortunate that this judgment has been delivered when the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court himself belongs to the SC community. On the one hand the Supreme Court declares that its judgment is the law of the land and on the other hand it says that the State Government is above the Constitution of India. This judgment of the Supreme Court clearly indicates that it is anti-reservation, he added.
