| | | Early Times Report Doda Dec 7 Expressing serious concern over the shortage of Fertilisers, MLA Doda Abdul Majid Wani said that Farmers in J&K, especially hilly terrains of Doda, are already in miserable condition due to the last drought. In case sufficient seeds as well as fertilizers are not made easily available to them in time, it shall result into failure of next crops. There are reports coming from Jammu as well as Doda region, where farmers are facing acute shortage of fertilizers, due to non-availability in government stores and sale of the same at exorbitant rates by private store owners. It was duty of the Cooperative Department to foresee demand of fertilizers in advance, which they failed. The situation is really bad in remote and rural areas of Doda region. It seems that few officers in Cooperative Department are glove in hands with private black marketers and are required to be dealt strictly. Reports are pouring in that fertilisers are not available in the government certified stores; but on the contrary adequate quantity of fertilisers are available in private shops and stores, who are selling same on exorbitant rates. It is alleged that there is nexus between government officials and private store owners which has resulted in the availability of fertilizers in private stores while government certified stores are without fertilizers. Abdul Majid Wani warned such corrupt elements to mend their ways and work selflessly for public with full wisdom. Wani has requested the Cooperative Minister Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma to take the matter seriously and take strict action against those responsible for the present chaos among farmers due to the shortage of seeds and fertilizers in government stores. JAKFED and Cooperative Department should be geared up with opening of more number of Fertilisers/Seeds Stores all over J&K. Super Bazar should be strengthened up with its stores/fair price outlets in all the rural and remote areas. The government should think afresh with a broader vision and revamp Cooperative Department completely along-with posting of a senior IAS Officer as its head. In case these steps taken along-with fiscal discipline and financial targets fixed for staff from top to bottom, the Cooperative department can become self sufficient to meet any financial demands, at any point of time.
