Early Times Report JAMMU, DEC 8: The Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra, has fervently appealed to the people to donate generously towards the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund. The Governor said this while launching the Fund collection drive by himself contributing towards the Fund at a function held at Raj Bhavan, here last evening. The Governor lauded the role of the Armed Forces, during war and in peace, in the State and said that the sacrifices offered by them bear testimony to their heroism, devotion and dedication to the duties assigned to them. He mentioned that during their valiant service to the nation, many attained martyrdom and suffered serious physical disabilities, emphasizing that the rehabilitation and resettlement of these personnel and their families is the society’s sacred obligation. He said that this day is a solemn occasion to express our gratitude and solidarity with them and their families. The Governor presented prizes to Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, Jammu, Lt. Col. (Retd) R. L. Gangal, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. Ajay Khajuria, Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, Srinagar, Lt. Col. (Retd) N. U. Sheikh and Mr. Gambhir Dev Singh Charak for their efforts in mobilizing resources for the Fund. The Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, Jammu, has made a collection of Rs. 4 lakh, followed by Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Rs. 2.11 lakh and the Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, Srinagar Rs. 1.50 lakh. Mr. Gambhir Dev Singh Charak has raised an individual collection of Rs. 67, 000 for the Fund. Against the collection of Rs. 14.57 lakh last year, an amount of Rs. 15.16 lakh has already been collected this year. Among those present on the occasion were the Chief Secretary, Mr. S. S. Kapur, Financial Commissioner, Home, Mr. Verghese Samuel, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Raj Kumar Goyal, former Minister, Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak, President, J&K Ex-Services League, Maj. Gen. (Retd) G. S. Jamwal, Director, Sainik Welfare, J&K, Brig. (Retd) R. S. Langeh, Brig. (Retd) K. S. Kotwal, Brig. (Retd) R. S. Jamwal, Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, Udhampur, Lt. Col. (Retd) M. S.
