| Kashmir coldest of season, expecting more snowfall | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 8 : With mercury dipping to minus 3.1 degree Celsius, people in the Kashmir valley experienced coldest night of the winter so far. Meanwhile, people living in higher reaches are warned of snow of avalanches as the region is expected to experience snowfall during the next 48 hours. It was the coldest night of the winter so far when the minimum dipped to minus 3.1 degree this morning in the summer capital, Srinagar. The lowest minimum temperature so far in the capital was recorded on November 20 when it was minus 3 degree. However, world famous tourist resort of Pahalgam, the base camp of holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Himalayas, was the coldest in the Kashmir valley with minimum dipping to minus 6.4 degree, lowest so far. A number of nullahas and ponds were frozen in the area. However, river Liddar was flowing, though the water level has come down. Official sources said holy Shivlingam in the cave shrine has been fully formed because of minus 15 degree temperature. People in Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, also in south Kashmir, continued to shiver with mercury dipping to minus 4 degree this morning followed by Kupwara minus 3.5 degree and Kokernag minus 2.2 degree.
