| Residential colony for lepers on offing: Dy CM | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, DEC 9: Deputy Chief Minister, Mr.Tara Chand visited J&K Kusht Ashram, a Leprosy Colony in Bhagwati Nagar and inspected the ongoing construction of 36 residential houses by Municipal Corporation, Jammu under Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) for the families of lepers at a cost of Rs 1.43 crore.
The Deputy Chief Minister was accompanied by MLC, Mr. Abdul Gani Vakil, Vice Chairman, Jammu Development Authority, Mr. G.A. Qureshi, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Jammu and other senior officers
During inspection, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the Municipal Commissioner to speed up the work on these houses so that the inmates of Kusht Ashram can be provided dignified accommodation as early as possible. He also directed the Municipal Commissioner for construction of drains and roads in the colony.
The Municipal Commissioner informed the Deputy Chief Minister that Centre has sanctioned the housing project for inmates of Kusth Ashram comprising of seven blocks with 36 sets in February, 2009 and work on the project started in July this year. He assured the Deputy Chief Minister that the project would be completed by the end of March 2010.
Later, Mr. Tara Chand distributed blankets, sweets and fruits among the inmates of Kusth Ashram on the birthday of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. He said that the UPA Chairperson, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi has been working tirelessly for ameliorating the lot of poor, adding that celebrating her birthday with the inmates of Kusth Ashram is the recognition of her love for the marginalized sections of the society. He said the UPA Government under her leadership has provided sufficient funds to the State for implementation of numerous development and welfare schemes for the people, especially for the weaker sections of the society.
